Yesterday, the Google Webmaster Central blog announced that in anticipation for the upcoming Barbecue season, they have added a new supported rich snippet markup format for recipes.

The rich snippets for recipes include user ratings, preparation time, recipe type, a picture and more. Here is an example taken from the webmaster tools blog:

In addition to reviews, people, video, and events, recipes is the fifth format that Google supports.

To get started, you will need to make up your recipes with microdata, RDFa, or the hRecipe microformat. If you need help or want more information about how to do this, you can read Google’s documentation on how to mark up recipe information.
